Jaksta crashes on start up

I am running Mac OSX 10.9.5 with Jaksta Media Recorder 1.4.6. When I install Jaksta, it works for a little while (a day or so). After that, it locks up when I launch the application forcing me to reinstall it. I have also noticed that after using Jaksta a few times, it starts to cause issues with videos playing in Safari. I have to shut down Jaksta, start the video playing on a resolution I don't want to capture, open Jaksta, then choose the resolution I want to capture so that Jaksta recognizes the video.

Hi Shane,

With the locking up on launch - the next time this occurs can you restart your machine rather than reinstalling it? Then start up Jaksta. Does it start up okay? Can you go to the Preferences and click Find Log File, and send this log file to us? This should have some information on why it's hanging.

With the video playing issues - do you mean that Safari can no longer play website videos properly, or simply that Jaksta no longer picks them up? Can you send the log file to us the next time this occurs (before restarting Jaksta)?

Thanks,

Ben

So Jaksta locked up on start up again and no, rebooting does not fix the issue.

As for the video playing issues, Safari will not start the video. It just searches for the video until I get a message saying Safari cannot find the video. When I turn Jaksta off, Safari has no issues playing them.

Hi Shane,

Thanks for the log. That looks unusual, it sounds like something is corrupting the proxy daemon. Do you know if you are running any anti-virus or security software in the background?

Does reinstalling it still fix the issue for a day or two?

Thanks,

Ben

I typically have nothing running in the background outside of the OS. I have noticed that when using Jaksta, I have to go into my network settings and fix the proxies because both Firefox and Safari will stop loading pages. Reinstalling still keeps it working for a while. Sometimes it's for a few days, but I usually have to reinstall it after the first day I've used it.

Hi Shane,

Sorry for the very long delay!

It sounds like Jaksta has been unusable for you if it is causing that much trouble with Safari and Firefox. We have a new beta version, it may not fix the issue you are experiencing but it could be worth a try:

Also do you know whether you are using another proxy, perhaps to be able to watch content in another country that is normally blocked?

Thanks,

Ben

My proxy settings have always been the default settings.

I will try the beta and see if I get better results. The program hasn't been unusable, but it certainly has been a royal pain to use. I did expect more from a $70 set of programs. The Music Miner has given me the same issues, and I've only used that a couple of times.

Hi Shane,

I understand. What you have described is definitely not the normal experience. We can offer a refund if you don't think it's really worth it for you.

There is another thing to check: are you able to try using it while logged in as a different user? In particular as a user with admin rights if you aren't already? It's possible that it's losing permission to run the proxy, or the proxy is losing the permissions that it needs. The Safari problem would be a secondary effect as the browser tries to use a proxy that is no longer running.

Thanks,

Ben

A quick update. I installed the beta the day you told me about it. Went to use Jaksta a few days ago and it locked up on start up. I tried it several times but still had to reinstall it to use it.

I have not tried running it as another user. I am the only user on my computer and I have full admin rights. I also regularly repair permissions on my computer.

As for the refund, I don't have a problem paying for something that is a pain like this if the developer seems to be working on finding a solution (which you currently seem to be). However, at this point (with no solution having been found) I would not pay for any new versions of the software nor would I readily purchase any other software that you would release unless this ended up being operational as I thought it would have been when I purchased it.

Hi Shane,

Sorry for the long delay. I have just refunded your payment. Sorry we weren't able to get this working for you.

Thanks,

Hi Shane,

Just to clarify - we still intend to fix this if we can, but I've given you a refund as you have waited a while now and it's not clear we can fix it very soon as it would appear to be an obscure issue.

Thanks,

Ben

I appreciate it Ben, but you must have refunded someone else's account as nothing has appeared in my Paypal account nor in my bank account. I hope you do find a solution. I plan on upgrading my OS as soon as I can get a couple of projects wrapped up. Hopefully when I do, the problem won't arise again.

Hi Shane,

Whoops, sorry it looks like it did not go through.

We actually have a newer version that has some changes to certificates, there is an outside chance it might fix it:

Otherwise you could try it again when you upgrade your OS or else let us know if you want a refund (I will make sure it goes through this time!)

Thanks,

So I've reformatted my drive and installed El Capitan. I installed Jaksta, try to enter my activation key and doing so locks up the program. When I force quit and restart, Jaksta did not get my code before locking up.

Hi Shane,

Sorry for the long delay!

It looks like the Jaksta applications file has been corrupted. Can you drag Jaksta from your Applications folder into the trash and then download and install this version:

http://download.shedworx.com/jaksta/beta/Jaksta.pkg

Are you able to activate it now?

Note that this won't delete your download list - this is stored elsewhere.

Thanks,

Ben
