Fragmenting

Hi there! So I am trying to download a video series on Vimeo, and was reccomended to this product by a friend. The friend says that the video should just start recording after I hit 'play' once, then I can close out of the video and it will continue downloading. With this method, I was supposed to be able to stack downloads as I quickly clicked through the entire series (which is tens of 25min episodes long), but there's a few problems.

1. The video does not keep downloading after I even hit 'pause' and leave the video open in my browser.

2. (and more importantly) When I hit 'Play' on my video with Jaksta open it would start making tons of 2MB-ish long fragments that could not be played, listing one after another as 'File...File(1)......File(100)...File(∞)with no end to it in sight as the video continued. None of them are playable on any media player and I just want .mp4's like in the Default that are 25 mins long.

I somewhat doubt this is how it is supposed to work and my friend came back and confirmed that with me. It should be able to start downloading the video after hitting Play once without having to have the video playing or even open in my browser.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks!

Hi Carolyn,

No that is definitely not how it is supposed to work. We actually released an update recently to address this "lots of tiny files" issue with Vimeo.

Can you visit a video or two on Vimeo and (assuming the same problem occurs) then send the log file to us? You can find it by going to the Preferences and clicking the Find Log File button.

Thanks,

Ben

I sent the log file twice and it won't show up in this thread, but I installed the update and I think it is working now. It still duplicates the file but only one of them is increasing the file size and that's the original. The others appear only if I keep playing the video, which I still think is weird, but otherwise I just opened the file and it works just fine. Thanks for telling me about the update!

Hi Carolyn,

Another thing with Vimeo is to make sure Jaksta is running before loading the main page. Jaksta sees lots of separate videos and has to see some information form the main page to know how to join them all together. Normally this is all done in the background and you should just see one big file. But if Jaksta only sees the video starting from halfway through it might not know to put them together.

Thanks,

Ben
