Jaksta is breaking my internet connection

I've already tried the troubleshooting steps recommended to others with this problem and it's still happening.  Jaksta is apparently messing with my proxies and crashing all browsers whenever it's on.  This is getting very frustrating!  I'm using El Capitan 10.11.6 and Jaksta 1.5.1.  I did the http://localhost/jaksta.cer thing and it didn't work (was I supposed to check all the boxes?)


Also, is it normal to not be able to use Skype at the same time as Jaksta is running?  Simply signing onto Skype with Jaksta running causes it to download HUNDREDS of emoticon files (maybe even thousands--I haven't kept it on long enough to let them all download!).

Are you running a VPN at all? If you are, turning that off would be a good first step. 


Can you please provide a log file the next time this problem occurs? You can find it in Jaksta by going to Preferences > General > Find Log File.


As far as the Skype issue is concerned, we'll see if we can get this proxy issue sorted first and then we'll see if that is separate or if it continues.

There is definitely something going wrong in the log file, but why it would be affecting the proxies is hard to say.


If you have not already, try doing a reinstall of Jaksta and update your Mac OS to the latest version, which is currently 10.12.4. 


If you are still experiencing problems after that, we are planning on releasing a new version of Jaksta in the coming week. There is a good chance that will contain a fix for the issue you are getting, so you may just need to sit tight for that to be released.


You should receive a notification once it has been released.

Uh...okay...thanks?  I'm not interested in updating to OSX Sierra for a number of reasons.  I was actually using Lion for the past six years until just recently and Jaksta worked flawlessly under that.  I have tried reinstalling Jaksta and it still renders my web browsers unusable when it's turned on.  From what I've read, you're going to be charging for the new version of Jaksta & I've already paid for it once so likely will not be ponying up more money--especially if there's no guarantee it'll even fix these proxy issues which I see from other posts are quite widespread.

If you go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies, check and see if any boxes are ticked when Jaksta is closed. There should be none. When you open Jaksta, Web Proxy (HTTP) and Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS) should be turned on. Once you close Jaksta, they should turn off again. Does this happen for you, or do you experience something else?


A relatively big part of the update is addressing some of the proxy issues that people have been having, so if there's going to be a simple fix then I'd say that is your best bet.


While it is a paid upgrade, if Jaksta still does not work for you then we would offer a full refund for both the cost of the upgrade and your original purchase. 


These proxy issues are often the hardest type of problem to fix, and sometimes it just comes down to the setup of the Mac that cannot be troubleshooted no matter how much you try. But if you don't want to update your OS or upgrade Jaksta, then we will try and fix it as it is.

Yes, that is what happens with my proxy settings.  But while Jaksta is on, Firefox will not let me visit any websites saying that the connection is insecure.   

 

Also, you say a big part of the update is addressing this proxy issue...if you have a fix for this, why should we have to pay for it?  Just release an update that fixes the issue!  I already shelled out $50 for Jaksta and shouldn't have to pay another $25 just to get it to work properly!  Selling fixes for known problems doesn't strike me as a very good business model.  At this point I'm just gonna go back to doing Quicktime screen recordings.

We have been releasing updates for Jaksta 1.X for a number of years now and they have always been free. Whilst this new version does contain a number of fixes, it is mainly the new content that we are selling. 


As I said previously, your issue is most likely going to be a conflict caused specifically by your machine/setup and that may mean that no amount of updates or fixes for Jaksta will solve it. 


I can help you out with your 2.0 activation, and you can try it and see if the problem persists. If it does continue and you are no longer interested in trying to get Jaksta working properly, then I can offer you a refund.

$50 was already a lot of money for me to drop on this program...I'm not about to pay another $25.  I think I'm done.

I don't think I'm eligible for a refund because I bought Jaksta years ago now.  It was working just fine for me under OSX Lion...it wasn't until I upgraded to El Capitan that it began screwing with my internet connection.  I just want it to work unobtrusively like it used to.  I can't imagine everyone who used Jaksta with El Capitan was having this issue, so there must be some fix for it.


I've even considered going backwards to OSX Mavericks if it would mean Jaksta would work properly, but now I see we can't even download Jaksta version 1 anymore...it forces us to download version 2.0 which, as I've explained, I'm not interested in.

Hi Joanne,


The following instructions are based on the assumption that you have already installed and are running Version 2 of Jaksta.


In order to do a FULL reinstall you will need to delete the app (uninstall) from Applications instead of just reinstalling over it. Then in Finder go to the top menu and then access Go > (holding one of shift/alt/control/command) Library > Application Support > Jaksta Media Recorder and delete that folder (NOTE: doing this will erase your library file list in Jaksta, but your downloaded/converted files will remain intact). This folder and its files may already be deleted when the app is removed, but it's a good idea to double check and be thorough in case it remains and is reused when the app is reinstalled. Reboot the Mac and then do a reinstall of the latest Version 2 update available (https://www.jaksta.com/download/mac/jaksta-media-recorder) and it will regenerate a new copy of the deleted folder and the application files. 


Alternatively you can just do a basic reinstall - uninstall (delete) app, reboot, reinstall.
